Three Trees

Three Trees
That watched the sunrise
And the course of tiny lives
Have stood so long and well
Guarding over peaceful pastures
And the ground where memories dwell

Three trees
Have felt the rainfall
Heard the song the spring wind sings
And felt their branches swaying
Almost lifted as in praying
Their thanks for love and friendship
In those distant joyful days

Three trees
That still remember
Those that frolicked in the sun
Whose laughter ringed the hilltops
And the paths where they would run
Hardly paying any mind
To the heavy hand of time

Three trees
That now loom lonely
Looking sadly old and bare
Of leaves, of life, of purpose
And of children playing there
