Emma Ashford Banks was born in Woodville, Ms. on March 25, 1926 to Mr. Samuel Ashford Sr. and Mary Lizzie Webb Ashford she is the oldest of 5 children.
She attended school at Magnolia in Woodville, Ms. and Cage Chapel Baptist Church where she completed the 8th grade.
She then moved to New Orleans on Labor day 1943 and attended Mc Donald #35 where she completed school to the 12th grade.
She also attended business school at the YMCA on Dryades St.
She worked for Katz ad Bestoff drug store for 4yrs and then the Greyhound Bus Line for 36 yrs.
Emma Banks retired at the age of 60 yrs old in order to take care of her mother and father in Centreville, Ms. Emma met Ernest Banks Sr. in 1949 and
later married him, and to this union one child was born named Victoria Banks Burden( Harry Burden).
Emma accepted Christ in 1964 and was baptized at
Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church where she is still a member and the chairperson for the senior citizens group at the church.
Emma has 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandsons. She also was a faithful member of the choir for 40 yrs, she is well known for her coconut cakes.
She will be 85 on March 25, 2011 and is still going strong and feisty as can be. She is
truly blessed and highly favored.
